What is the location?

Tākina is located at 50 Cable Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011.

Can I bring an external caterer for my event?

All event catering is managed through our award-winning in-house team onsite. Custom menus are available, and our friendly team is more than happy to cater for any dietary requirements. Please contact Tākina Events at enquiries@takinaevents.co.nz to discuss how we can create the perfect catering experience for your event. 

Where can I park?

Tākina is conveniently located near several parking options, including the Te Papa carpark across Cable Street. Parking your car at Te Papa helps to support the mahi of Aotearoa New Zealand's national museum. Directly across Wakefield Street, you'll also find Reading on Wakefield (open all-day Monday-Sunday) and Barnett Street car park (open Monday-Sunday).

Is Tākina located close to attractions and shops?

Situated on Wellington's scenic waterfront, Tākina offers close walking proximity to Oriental Bay, harbour views, green spaces, and a vibrant selection of restaurants, bars, museums, galleries and retail outlets in the heart of Wellington's cultural precinct.

Directly opposite Tākina is Te Papa, New Zealand's national museum. Te Papa is a world-class bicultural institution featuring award-winning exhibitions, the national art collection, and taonga (treasures) of the nation. Visitors can explore exhibitions celebrating New Zealand's unique natural environment or discover cultural exhibitions, providing both inspiration and an authentic connection to Aotearoa New Zealand.

What are the public transport options?

Wellington Combined Taxis have a taxi stand on Cable Street in front of Te Papa – right across the main entrance of Tākina. Most Wellington buses (including those from the airport and railway station) stop along Courtenay Place which is only a few minutes' walk from Tākina. Free bike, scooter, and skateboard parking is available at Te Papa. Padlocks can be rented free-of-charge. 

Are there hotels nearby?

Within a 5 minute walk from Tākina there are 7 hotels, ranging from 3 to 5 star, offering a total of 680 rooms. The closest hotel is the QT Wellington. Within a 5-20 minute walk from the convention centre there are an additional 28 hotels.

Can I bring an assistance dog to the venue?

Certified assistance dogs are allowed in the venue when assisting a person with a disability. Please ensure the dog wears the appropriate coat and has a valid ID card.
