Delegates are in for a treat when the Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre (WCEC) opens its doors in the heart of the coolest little capital in the world.

Due for completion in 2022, the WCEC will deliver world class conventions in a city famed for its outstanding lifestyle, visitor and delegate experience.

Situated just minutes from Wellington’s stunning waterfront precinct and literally across the road from Te Papa National Museum and Toi Art National Art Gallery, the WCEC is also within easy walking distance of key transport links, accommodation, entertainment and recreation options.

The new centre will have more than 10,000 sqm of purpose-built exhibition and a conference space for up to 1700 people, a 2500 sqm exhibition floor, two large, flexible plenary halls and meeting rooms, and a gala dinner capacity of 1400 people.

A vibrant ground floor public gallery and café space with two main entrances on Cable and Wakefield streets ensures a warm welcome to all visitors.

Wellington Mayor Justin Lester says the WCEC, designed by Wellington-based Studio Pacific Architecture and rated a five Greenstar building, was inspired by Wellington’s dramatic landscape and environment.

In Wellington we strive to be bold, creative and push boundaries.

Wellington Mayor Justin Lester

“The world class design of WCEC takes this to a new level. It will provide a wealth of single or multi event options. depending on an event’s needs.

“We really do believe you will be blown away by both our new convention centre and what our vibrant city has to offer.”

WellingtonNZ Regional Development General Manager David Perks says the WCEC will bring a new level of convention excellence to New Zealand’s capital city.

“We have a strong reputation for our international connectiveness, delivering outstanding events, and an exceptional delegate experience. The WCEC will provide a purpose-built space to welcome a broader range of business events and grow Wellington’s reputation further.”

The WCEC kick starts Wellington’s latest round of infrastructure investment which includes upgrades on the Wellington Town Hall and St James Theatre, along with the proposed $6.4 billion Let’s Get Wellington Moving transport investment.
